About TXR Mile Challenge: (Track, X-Country, Road)

The 3-2-1's of the TXR Mile Challenge: 3 Disciplines - 2 Hours - 1 American Mile

  • 3 separate races, 3 running disciplines

  • 2 hours to complete your challenge

  • 1 unique day at 1 venue featuring 1 Track Mile, 1 X-Country Mile, and 1 Road Mile.

TXR's innovative format offers the best of 3 styles of running competition and engagement:

  • For serious competitors, challenge yourself to 3 running disciplines in 1 day while strategizing your race order and recovery time. Our unique cumulative format will give you new PR goals to chase through the years.

  • For the adventurers, if you've never tried cross-country or haven't been on a track since high school, this is the welcoming opportunity you've been waiting for. A short distance on all 3 surfaces and a generous finish cutoff invite you to get familiar and comfortable with all aspects of running.

The TXR Mile Challenge welcomes all levels of runners from the elite to just getting started. Our unique event format offers the distinctive opportunity to run three surfaces - track, grass, and pavement - within the same venue. Challengers will take on three separate races - each one mile - each timed separately. Each of the three races will be started and timed separately from one another for each Challenger.  Cumulative times will be used for overall scoring. All three miles must be started within the Starting Block and completed before the Finish Cutoff. Starting Block - 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.; Finish Cutoff - Noon

5280.Run

The TXR Mile Challenge is part of the 5280 Run series. 5280 represents the number of feet in 1 mile...or an American Mile as we think of it. No meters here!

The 5280 concept was launched at the Westfield Turkey Trot to provide a competitive limited-field alternative to the long-standing family fun run 1M.

The series is in development and will consist of 1 Mile events curated or created to fit the 5280.Run standards.

Environmental Notes

  • As at all of our events, we encourage you to bring your own water supply in a reusable bottle to help reduce our single-use waste.

Challenge Format & Runner Strategy

  • Our unique event format offers the distinctive opportunity to run three surfaces - track, grass, and pavement - within the same venue on the same day.
  • Challengers will take on three separate races - each one mile - each timed separately. Each of the three races will be started and timed separately from one another for each Challenger.
  • Each mile race has it's own start line, finish line, and timing.
  • We will be employing a rolling start format at each start line (no group starts, no waves, no "On your mark, Go!"...enter the chute when you're ready and the starter will send each waiting runner off several seconds apart).
  • Your runner # will be electronically recorded as you cross the start mat for each of the miles and your finish times will be calculated as you cross the finish mat for each of the miles.
  • Your Miles, Your Strategy!
    • Choose the order best for you (Track then Road then XC; Road then XC then Track; etc.) - there are 6 ways you can choose to complete your three mile events.
    • Whether you prefer to go from one finish line right to the next starting line or you prefer to rest and hydrate between or even change your footwear, the choice is entirely yours as long as you start your final mile by 11:30 a.m. and complete it by Noon.
    • NEW: We will be asking you to declare your 1st mile choice via email in advance of event day. You will not need to declare the order of your 2nd and 3rd miles.
  • Cumulative times from each of your 3 miles will create your final Challenge time. Challenge times will be used for scoring and awards.

Event Information

Event Site

All start and finishes are adjacent to our staging area and spectator-friendly. You'll easily be able to access parking lots and restrooms. Both Oak Ridge Park parking lots are equidistant from our Event Site & Staging area and both lots are close to restroom buildings.

Bring your chairs and blankets! There will be ample room on our event site lawn to spread out and make yourself comfortable. You may bring small tents/shades as long as they are properly weighted or staked down. (Non-secured tents are dangerous and will not be tolerated - this is a safety issue.)

IMPORTANT SITE NOTE FOR CHALLENGERS: Your assigned set of bib #s will have coded timing chips attached that will be read by each set of start and finish mats. Start and Finish zones will be clearly marked to keep all timing chips a safe distance from timing equipment until you are actively approaching a Start or Finish line.
