Water For People World Water Classic

Join us for the 6/60k World Water Classic benefitting Water For People! This event is held in conjunction with WEFTEC, but participation is open for all. Sign up now to run/walk 6k, bike 60k, or get creative any time between September 26 - October 5, 2025 and your registration will help provide improved water and sanitation through Water For People’s programs.

Please note that all currency is in U.S. dollars. If you are registering from another country, your amount will differ on your credit card and there could be transaction fees.

Additionally, you can opt-in to fundraise as an individual or part of a Team to further your impact!

If you're interested in participating with family, friends, colleagues, or others, you can join a Group during the registration process or afterward through the participant center. Water For People will recognize the Group with the most members after the Classic.

For the World Water Classic, you can join a group or a fundraising team. What's the difference?

Join a group during the registration process (or after through your participant center) to participate with friends, family, or colleagues. Groups can be families, Committees, companies, divisions within a company, or anything else you'd like! You can create a group or join one of the options that already exist. If feasible, we encourage groups to meet to run, walk, or bike together in person. Being part of a group is optional, but rewarding! Water For People will recognize the group with the most members after the World Water Classic. 

Teams are for fundraising and are optional. Fundraising teams are great for companies or Committees that have several people participating in the Classic. Each person can set up an individual fundraiser that links to the team. All of the fundraisers under the team will be credited towards the team. To set up a team, you must first create an individual fundraiser.

The top individual fundraiser will receive a Water For People gift. 

Why are we doing a 6k instead of 5k? It's simple - because 6k is the average distance women and girls in Sub-Saharan Africa walk each day to collect water for their families.

Here are more reasons to get involved:

• Women and girls specifically are responsible for water collection in 8 out of 10 households without water on site.
• Each additional 15 minutes spent walking for water is associated with a 12% reduction in girls’ school attendance.
• Collectively around the world, women and girls spend 200 million hours each day gathering water.
• The 5-gallon containers of water often carried can weigh over 40 pounds when filled.

There’s an urgent need for sustainable solutions to ensure access to safe water and promote gender equality. That’s why Water For People is driving lasting access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services that are equitable to all and bring health and prosperity to communities.
