About Team Rave On
Welcome back to Team Rave On* in celebration of Andy Katz!
We appreciate your continuing support and are honored to sponsor WXPN Musicians On Call as they work to transform how music is used to improve the patient, caregiver, health worker — and human — experience.
Our Team Rave On dollars have helped bring bedside and virtual performances, music-making, and community to a growing number of hospitals and healthcare facilities in the Philadelphia area and beyond, delivering joy, hope, and healing to those who need it most.
Let’s continue to rave on together again this year!
- Make a donation to WXPN Musicians On Call as part of Team Rave On.
- Register with Team Rave On to run, walk, and dance with us at Penn Park on Sunday, October 13, 2024.
Many thanks in advance! We are proud and humbled to join with you in Andy’s name to spread the healing power of music.
~ Debbie, Aaron, Daniel, and the Katz and Blum Families
* "Rave On” was one of Andy’s favorite songs, specifically the M. Ward version (though, with a nod to music history and music rights, he would always credit Buddy Holly as the hit-maker). Surely, Andy would want us all – his family, friends, good-karma network, and anyone, anywhere in the midst of a struggle – to open our ears, open our hearts, and rave on.

3. Ask, and ask again!
Starting from the time you register for the WXPN 5k Run for Musicians On Call until the fundraising deadline, ask your family, friends, co-workers and others in your network for support as you run, or walk ,to help bring the healing power of music. Consider for their support you with a specific dollar amount such as $20, $50, $100. Every dollar counts and makes a difference!
To find your custom fundraising URL and see what your sharing options are, you will need to be signed into RunSignUp. While signed in, scroll down to your Fundraising section of your profile. Here you will find your personalized fundraising URL.

4. Utilize social media
Post on social media to get the word out and encourage family and friends - in Philadelphia, across the country, and around the world to join the 5k Run for Musicians On Call!
- Use the event hashtag #XPNMOC5k in your posts
- Tag WXPN on Facebook (@885wxpn) and Instagram (@wxpnfm) in your post.
- Tag Musicians On Call on Facebook (@musiciansoncall) and Instagram (@MusiciansonCall)
- Don't forget to make your post public!
Leading up to the run/walk, here are some post ideas:

- Share photos or videos of your team t-shirts and signs
- Share photos or videos of yourself training for the run/walk
- Share photos or videos of your team members
- Encourage others to participate in 5k Run Musicians On Call by sharing the event website
5. Send a note by mail!
Not everyone is on social media or regularly checks email. Consider sending handwritten letters to ask family, friends, neighbors, co-workers and others in your network to donate in support of your efforts. If you receive donations of cash or check, please mail to:
WXPN
3025 Walnut Street
Philadelphia, PA 19103
Please enclose a note describing the individual or team that the donations should be credited to.
6. Start or join a team!
Teams are a fun way to bring people together. Recruit your friends, family, and co-workers to join you in your efforts to help music to the people who need it most – hospital patients. Team members also provide great support to help each other achieve individual goals, and through their collective fundraising, teams make a bigger impact!
7. Consider a company matching gift program.
Many employers have a matching gift program and will match charitable donations made by their employees. Each company has its own approach to charitable giving, so please be sure to confirm matching gift program guidelines directly with your employer. If your company does not have a formal matching gift program, ask your company to match each dollar that you and your team members collectively fundraise. This is a great way to double your impact!
8. Don't forget to update your network, and thank them!
Thank you notes are SO important! Make sure to thank people who are making donations in a timely manner (for example: don't wait until the event is over). Remember to also share updates on your progress with your supporters.
Other Creative Fundraising Ideas:
You've jumpstarted your fundraising by following the steps above - now it's time to get creative! Here are some ideas to help you grow your impact.
1. Birthday donations
In lieu of a gift for your birthday, ask your friends and family to make a donation to support your efforts to fight pediatric cancer and fund hope.
2. Host a fundraising event!
Get creative with ways to raise awareness and inspire others to donate to a cause you care about by hosting something! Host lemonade stand. Host a bake sale. Host online karaoke. Host online bingo. Host a trivia night.
3. Host a benefit night at a local restaurant.
Check in with your favorite local restaurants. Many places already have programs in place to help you fundraise at their establishment. The restaurant may not be open to inside dining, but remember this could work for online ordering and take out as well!
4. Organize a dress down day/casual Fridays/spirit day at work.
Select a certain day and allow employees to pay $5 on that day to dress casually/in favorite sports team apparel, etc.
Here's a quick look at how to manage and share your WXPN 5k Run for Musicians On Call fundraiser page.

Quick Tips with Mike
We're excited to have you join us for the WXPN 5k Run! Over the next few months, Mike Vasilikos will share weekly training tips in our new series, 'Quick Tips with Mike' to help you prepare. Check out the playlist below as we release a new tip each week!
Week 1 Tip: Start Slow and Build Gradually
Mike's Advice:
If you're new to running, start with a mix of running and walking. Aim for 20-30 minutes of exercise three times a week. Gradually increase the running intervals while decreasing the walking intervals.
Why Start Slow?
Starting slow helps prevent injuries and allows your body to adjust to the new activity. It also makes the process more enjoyable and sustainable, helping you build a habit without overwhelming yourself.
How to Mix Running and Walking:
- Warm-Up: Begin with a 5-minute brisk walk to warm up your muscles.
- Intervals: Alternate between 1 minute of running and 2 minutes of walking. As you get more comfortable, increase the running time and decrease the walking time.
- Cool Down: Finish with a 5-minute walk to cool down.
Progression Plan:
- Week 1: 1 minute running / 2 minutes walking
- Week 2: 2 minutes running / 2 minutes walking
- Week 3: 3 minutes running / 1.5 minutes walking
- Week 4: 4 minutes running / 1 minute walking
- Week 5: 5 minutes running / 1 minute walking
Week 2 Tip: Set Realistic Goals
Mike's Advice:

What We Do
WXPN Musicians On Call
It’s no secret that music can help you feel better. That’s why WXPN Musicians On Call brings music to the people who need it most – hospital patients.
WXPN Musicians On Call brings live music to the bedsides of patients in nine area hospitals throughout our region. Drawing on WXPN's strong relationship with the local music community, volunteer musicians led by volunteer guides began providing in-room, bedside performances for patients and their caregivers in Delaware Valley hospitals in 2004.
In 2020, Musicians On Call took its programs virtual in order to reach patients and caregivers during the COVID-19 pandemic. As of June 2023, volunteer guides and musicians are returning to live in-person performances at several facilities, with more scheduled to return this summer and fall. The funds you raise will go directly to supporting the recruiting, training, and onboarding of new and returning volunteer guides and musicians and is crucial to delivering the healing power of music to all nine facilities.
Musicians On Call Offerings:
- In-person and Virtual Bedside Performances connecting volunteer musicians and guides with hospital-bound patients.
- Spanish Virtual Program offering a 30-minute live performance led by Spanish-speaking volunteers.
- Music Pharmacies consisting of tablets equipped with streaming services and top-of-the-line headphones ready for patient use
- #MOCheals Playlists offered to patients and caregivers to provide soothing and uplifting music whenever they need it.
