About YMCA Pier-2-Pier Swim
The YMCA’s Pier-2 Pier Race, in memory of Ryan Young, is an open water ocean swimming event held at beautiful Wrightsville Beach, NC. The swim is approximately 2 miles point-to-point between Johnnie Mercers and Crystal Piers with prevailing current.
This unique event creates a lot of excitement and enthusiasm in the swimming community and highlights the Y’s commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living and fostering a sense of social responsibility. All proceeds from the Pier-2-Pier race benefit the YMCA’s Safety Around Water program, a free water safety and swim course available to the community each spring, summer and fall.

Event Rules
Age Requirement
Participants must be 10 years or older
Wetsuit Rules
Wetsuits are optional. Wearing a wetsuit will result in a 3-minute penalty
Inclement Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather, the Pier-2-Pier will be postponed in hopes the bad weather will pass. If it does not pass in time to complete the event safely in the original or modified format, the event will be cancelled.
If cancelled due to an act of God or other circumstance beyond the race director's control, there will be no refunds, credits or transfers.

Awards will be given to the top overall male and female, top masters male and female, and top male and female in each age group division.

Race Logistics
Parking
Participants and spectators can choose to park for free at Wrightsville Beach Town Hall and take a shuttle to the race start / finish or participants can pay to park on the street.
Pre-Race Meeting
A pre-race briefing will be held at the swim start location at 8:45am

Swim Course
The 1.7 mile swim course is a straight path between Johnnie Mercer's Pier and Crystal Pier. The start and finish locations will be determined three hours prior to race start. Participants will swim with the current.
